What I Stand For

Our Environment

Clean Rivers, Lakes & Beaches  – Many of our rivers, lakes and beaches are unsafe for swimming and not fit for our fish. We need to work harder to clean up and reduce pollution from urban, rural and industrial areas.   

Restoring Native Biodiversity – Our children need a healthy and resilient natural environment to support them into the future.  We need to protect the few forest remnants and wetlands we have left and increase native biodiversity in our urban and rural areas.  

Climate Solutions & Resilience – Our region faces more flood events, droughts and lower summer-time river levels. We need more research, adequate flood protection and careful land and water management with a view for resilience.  I want to see regional leadership on renewable energy and a low emission transport system.

Waste Reduction – We need regional leadership towards reducing urban, rural and commercial waste and continued efforts to make sure residual waste is disposed of safely.

Effective Community Partnerships – Our region is full of great people doing great things! I want to see more partnerships that empower our community.  We can better achieve our environmental, social and economic goals by working smarter together.

Good Decision Making – Fact based, forward thinking decisions that build long term resilience for our communities and our environment.

Accountability, Transparency & Value-For-Money – Systems and processes that provide transparency around community engagement and decision making, allow us to monitor on-the-ground results, and assess for value-for-money outcomes.
